Here is the first PSI Media Medley for 2013/14!

Welcome Back!  

I am excited to get started with the year!

Just a note:  I have added the ability for you to send me a comment via email.  In the past, the comment tool on the Media Medley was difficult to manage.  Just fill out the info and submit any question or comment!

It's time to let me know your choice for Library Book Choice!

I have waited to send this because I need to see how the various schedules in Fifth Grade and Kindergarten work so that I can block in my fixed schedule!

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING 

BEFORE

You tell me your top 3 choices for a time!

• Try to give options that are other than the same time on different days.  
• Pay attention to the times that I am not available to be with you.  Even though you come with your class for book choice, I often do lessons that your class will miss if I am scheduled with other things.
• Lisa's Hours:  8:15 to 2:15....that means that it is hard for us to be ready for ANY class until at least 8:45 and she will be unavailable to help with check-out if your class comes after 1:45.

The following times ARE NOT available

8:15-8:45 MTWTHF (Grade 3-4-5 Math Jumpstart)

12:20-2:00 Tuesday (Fifth Grade English Intervention)

2:00-2:45 Wednesday (Fifth Grade English Media)

12:20-1:10 Thursday (Fifth Grade English Media)

1:10-2:00 Thursday (Fifth Grade English Media)

In addition: Library Media Meetings are scheduled once a month on Monday mornings from 8:30-10

Submission Form for Library Book Choice

Book Choice will start the week of September 9th.
All Students will be able to check out 3 books beginning that week.
Students with books from last year still on their records will only be able to check out 1 book until this is resolved.

Important Information about BOOK BOXES!

Grades 3-5

• You may sign up for a time to check out Book Box Books beginning September 5th.
• This ALWAYS needs to be arranged with Lisa! Please TALK with her, not just write a note.  Many times there are schedule issues that are not apparent and having a book box class can be a problem if you don't clear it with her.
• Remind students that book box books are due after 1 month.  This keeps the favorite books in circulation rather than "stuck" in one classroom!

Book Boxes Procedures

Grades 3-4-5 are welcome to begin bringing classes to check out books for the classroom book boxes.

These are the important things to remember about book box books

• BBB(book box books) are checked out to the BOOK BOX Patron for your room

example:  235BB

(this is new....and will ease the confusion of checking them out under the teacher name)

• BBBs should never go home unless the student comes and checks the book out to their own account.
•  Important Book Box Books will be considered OVERDUE after 2 months.
  • If everyone returns books after 2 months....they can get back in general circulation and let everyone have a chance to use them.
  
   Please Please Please
  • be sure to check in with Lisa EACH time you sign up for a book box choice time!
  • Please DO NOT mix regular library and book box choice times-this causes a great deal of confusion for the students and also takes too much time for the 30 minute time.

Library Times September 19-23 in the LMC

Look how cute these little ones are!
Helping our Kinder classes choose library books for the first time is probably one of my favorite things!

All of our kids got to use the library to check out books this week!

A couple of things:
Lisa and I need you to keep book box and library book choice times SEPARATE!

It is too difficult for us to move back and forth between the teacher account and the student account.
Students are welcome to come to the media center anytime on a pass to choose new book box titles!

Remind students to take care of outstanding book issues from last year so they can check out 3 books.
When I get the list of summer readers, students will have a sticker to allow 4 books at a time.

Please let us know when(if) you are going to start BITB.

Library next week will continue to focus on procedures....
when it works out I would love to read a book before check out....
I haven't gotten to do this and really miss it....
If I am reading in English to your students, please feel free to leave and come back to help with choosing books....unless you really want to listen to me read :)

About those CLASSROOM BOOK BOXES

It was great to see so many teachers using book boxes in the classroom last year.

We know that if students can choose books at their level to read every day, there is a big payoff for them.

Just look at the improved student reading scores last year if you want proof!

I would like to invite all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classrooms to come to the Media center next week to choose books for book boxes.
K-1-2 teachers, I am assuming that you will have enough books by using the new book room.
Just leave a comment telling me the day and time that you would like to come.
Schedule about 20 minutes.

There were a couple of issues with Book Boxes last year....the major one was that books did not come back to the library often enough. 
SOOOO!!!!
This year teacher books will be considered OVERDUE after 2 months.
