Computer Lab Details!

Both of the computer labs are open for business!

The sign-up sheet is on the counter like it always is.

If you want my assistance with your projects, please note that in the center column!!  But it never hurts to also let me know face to face what your project is and how I can help!

I am going to try to be better at noting times when I am not available to help out...but you know how that will probably go!!!

NEW GUEST LOGIN!!!!

You might have noticed that the log in for the guest account has changed!!!!

It is NO LONGER     guest account

NOW it is simply the word    guest in lower case with no password needed.

We are in the process of changing the signs in the lab....there ARE stickers on the machines with the new info on them.....

If you would like stickers for your classroom machines, they are in the document holder by the door to the center.  Help Yourself!

REMEMBER!!!  All students should be logging into the computers as guest

If you need to have something saved and aren't using GoogleDocs, come see me and we can make a plan!

A Helpful Hint When Scheduling Lab Time for Activities Involving the Printer!

If you are planning a project that will be printed.....the easiest thing for you is to sign up for the large back lab.  The computers in that lab default to the color printer with no extra step for you.

If you try to print from the computers in the center lab, they default to the small black and white printer and you will need to have the kids pull down the printer list and choose the color printer.

I KNOW WHAT I WOULD DO!!!!   More often than not, if the back lab is already spoken for, the person will probably be willing to switch with you....just ask them!

You might want to hurry and sign up.....Why???
MAP Testing will begin on September 15th....taking up an awful lot of lab times for 3 weeks!

Before you bring your students into the lab....please have a discussion about taking care of the spaces.

Schedule a couple of minutes at the end of the session to straighten up the lab for the next group!

Some classrooms have an assigned "helper" who goes around and checks this.

  • DO NOT HAVE STUDENTS LOG OUT of the guest account when you leave...this saves time for the next group!
  • Remind students to NEVER turn off the computer unless they are instructed to do so!!

Hope to see you soon!

New Log In Procedure for This year!

Change is GOOD.....Right?
Really you are gonna like this...I PROMISE!

After lots of discussion (complaining!!!) with the tech department, we came up with a solution to the very long logging in issues students faced last year in the computer lab.

This year.....things are gonna be different!!!

When you come to the lab...the computers will most often be logged in to the guest account!

If they are NOT...please have your students log in as a guest!

Log In Name:  guest account   (all lower case.....a space between the words)
There is NO PASSWORD....just leave that blank and continue to LOG IN!

When you leave the lab....DO NOT log the computers out!

WHY?

Most often kids do not need to access their accounts....they just need to use the computers for access to the internet!

There is no need to take the time to sync to their accounts!!!

This will be a real time saver for most computer activities!!!

If they DO need access to their accounts...there is a share point on the dock to the K-5 sever.
That is not active at this point....but I am promised that it will work within the week!

If you are coming to the lab to do something that you want your kids to save.....
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE...schedule this with me so that I can teach your kids the process!

The front lab is fully functional at this point and the back lab will be ready in a couple of days!!!!

The sign up schedule is the same as last year....

See you soon!

Media Center Coffee Club!

The "Coffee Club" in the PSI Media Center is open for business!

EVERYONE is WELCOME!

I make coffee in the big pot early in the morning.....sometimes I even make a second pot if 48 cups doesn't last through the morning!

Sign Up to participate!

This year I am asking people who join in to contribute money instead of coffee!
We will collect the money up front....NOW...and ask for more when that is spent!
I will buy coffee, sugar and creamer with the funds!

Like any good club....you have OPTIONS!!!

Level 1:  Caffeine Addict.....you know who you are!!!  You are waiting at the door every morning with cup in hand....or you stop in each day at least once or twice!
If this is YOU....please contribute $10 to the coffee fund
Level 2: Regular Coffee Drinker....you come almost every day...but lots of times you bring your own from home....You are disappointed when the pot is empty...but it doesn't RUIN your day!

If this is YOU....please contribute $5 to the coffee fund
Level 3: Occasional Coffee Drinker....you rarely need a cup of coffee, but there are those days that you need a little pick me up!  You like when there is coffee at morning staff meetings.

If this is YOU.....please contribute $2 to the coffee fund....and this will be for the WHOLE year!

I will put an envelope with a check off sheet next to the coffee pot by my office door!
It would be great if we could get a chunk of money going in the next few days!!!
Would you believe we went through THREE POUNDS of coffee and a HALF GALLON of creamer last week alone!!!

Coffee Club members need to provide their own cups.....I have a few....but they always disappear into some strange "cup graveyard".....

Well......maybe not 24 HOURS...even if it seems like it some days!!!

Let me know if you have any questions....see ya at the coffee pot!!!

About those CLASSROOM BOOK BOXES

It was great to see so many teachers using book boxes in the classroom last year.

We know that if students can choose books at their level to read every day, there is a big payoff for them.

Just look at the improved student reading scores last year if you want proof!

I would like to invite all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classrooms to come to the Media center next week to choose books for book boxes.
K-1-2 teachers, I am assuming that you will have enough books by using the new book room.
Just leave a comment telling me the day and time that you would like to come.
Schedule about 20 minutes.

There were a couple of issues with Book Boxes last year....the major one was that books did not come back to the library often enough.
SOOOO!!!!
This year teacher books will be considered OVERDUE after 2 months.

If everyone returns books after 2 months....they can get back in general circulation and let everyone have a chance to use them.

Let me know if you have questions about this!
